Surgery

I have had 6 hair transplant surgeries to date totalling approximately 8000 grafts. I will detail here the individual surgeries including when they were undertaken and the amount of grafts transplanted in each session.

I decided to look into the possibility of a hair transplant at the end on 2005. I spent approximately 6 months researching prior to having my first surgery in the summer 2006. I was a norwood 5 progressing to 6 but as I wore my hair extremely short I decided to have FUE surgery.

This was an unusual decision for someone with my extreme loss, but I knew that I had a better than average donor area and was aware that I could have multiple surgeries.

I did not really appreciate at the time the intricacies of hair transplantation and was in some ways ignorant of some of the issues surrounding it. It was very daunting at the beginning to know the various techniques available and the associated advantages. After 5 surgeries and 3 years of being a patient I have gained a lot of knowledge and have experience of being in the chair, so I feel that I am aptly informed to be able to assist and advise potential hair transplant candidates.

I will seek to document each surgery more fully with accompanying photographs, but in short the surgeries are as below:-

Surgery 1. 2580 FUE July 2006 Clinic in Europe

Surgery 2. 2100 FUE February 2007 BHR Clinic

Surgery 3. 1100 FUE October 2007 BHR Clinic

Surgery 4. 900 FUE/BHFUE September 2008 BHR Clinic

Surgery 5. 600 FUE/BHFUE May 2009 BHR Clinic

Surgery 6. 640 FUE/BHFUE February 2010

My future surgery. At present I am fortunate enough that after my last surgery [February 2010] grows, I would have had coverage in most of the head. I will need a final surgery to close the lower part of the crown where I am thinning but not bald at present, and to close my temples. Unfortunately my hairline was done at my first procedure with another clinic and they left the temple area open. Although this might be a minor detail to the untrained eye, for me it is something that I will get addressed on the next surgery. I will be reliant on body hair for the crown closure but am fortunate enough to have an ample supply of beard, body hair, and to have a doctor skilled and experienced in harvesting from these parts of the body.

I am now looking forward to the growth of my last surgery and then later on in the year having what could be my last surgery! The journey that started 4 years ago is coming to completion. I can honestly say that I never expected to get the coverage that I have got and do consider myself extremely fortunate to be able to get coverage using FUE only.
