Medicine & Natural remedies for Hair loss

There are loads of products that claim to miracle cures for hair loss. I've tried a lot of them over the years, but the ones that have been proven to work to differing degrees are:-

Finasteride/Propecia - This is a drug that is a DHT inhibitor. In 1997, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved finasteride to treat male pattern hair loss. Merck sells it under the brand name Propecia. Side effects reported by approximately 1% are erectile dysfunction, and less often gynecomastia (breast gland enlargement).

This drug can be available on prescription [I took it in 98 under NHS prescription]. I was on it for several years and it did halt my hair loss. I decided to come off it purely because I wanted to be on natural products.

Rogaine- This is the brand name of minoxidil. Is is available over the counter without prescription and has been found to be beneficial in hair loss.

MSM stands for methyl-sulfonyl-methane and is a sulfur compound that has positive benefits in the body, such as benefiting the hair and the skin. MSM is a sulfide that is said to assist in hair growth. There is debate is to whether it actually combats hair loss or simply lengthens the growing phase of the hair and increases hair thickness.

Saw Palmetto-Saw palmetto amongst many things is popular as an herbal remedy for a type of hair loss male. It is believed to work in a similar way to Propecia in that it inhibits the conversion of DHT. It may be a natural alternative for those who do not wish to use conventional drugs.
