After 5 surgeries I have
had the opportunity to gather from my own
experience some of the things that may be
helpful to the patient for both before and
after surgery. These are simple practical
steps.
!.Stop taking vitamins or anything that
could increase blood pressure or thin the
blood. This does not include medication
upon which you would need to get medical
advice.
2. Be careful if you are into weight training
or martial arts. It is advisable not to
train a week prior to surgery in order to
limit the opportunity of any blows to the
head. This goes for post surgery also.
3. Dont get sunburn prior or post surgery
to the scalp area
4. Several days before the surgery avoid
alcohol.
5. If travelling for surgery by public
transport such as plane or train try to
book a window seat for the return trip.
This limits the possibility of being hit
on the head by another passanger especially
if there are people walking up and down
the corridors.
6. Keep baggage to a miminum, you don't
want to lift unecessary weight.
7. Do housework and essential shopping
items prior to coming for surgery. This
will enable you to rest more upon return.
